Sooner , or later , this question arises us all. U.S. and British scientists have developed a new algorithm for analyzing DNA , known as the Geography of Population Structure , or GPS . They say that GPS can pinpoint village or tribe where the genes that created the DNA of people joined, or were bound for the last time .

This may have occurred about a thousand years ago , during migration , or conquest, when people from other populations began to separate associate with each other .

To test the accuracy of their algorithm , scientists analyzed genetic data of 200 residents from 10 villages of Sicily . GPS - quarter of their set at the place where they are today , and others , within 50 kilometers of their village . Similar results were taken from the 10 islands of Oceania , and this method accurately emerged mainly in 98 % of cases .

Besides helping to recognize their ancestors , the scientists say the new method helps the health of people , when they know their genetic profile . So they can take care of diseases that appear to have inherited .
